Get Stoned At Il Fornello

Il Fornello
Toronto’s eighth annual Winterlicious, which runs from January 29 to February 11 at 150 restaurants, is intended for people to try some of the city’s best and sometimes priciest establishments by offering three-course prix fixe for between $15 and $45. But one restaurant chain, Il Fornello, which cannot participate because it has more than one location and does not fit the strict criteria, came up with Winterdelicious, and added its own $25 prixe fixe menu from Sunday to Thursday with a charitable angle.

The franchise, which is offering this special at seven of its eight locations (go to www.stonesoupfestival.ca), will donate 75-cents to the Daily Bread Food Bank for every prix fixe sold from Jan. 12 to Feb. 11. They have also developed a special dish on the menu called stone soup. The European folktale is a wonderful story of a hungry traveller who uses a “magic” stone to make stone soup for villagers who have fallen on hard times with no food to spare, but after each villager donates one ingredient, there’s soup for everyone.

You can read the whole folk tale in the promotions section of www.ilfornello.com or at www.stonesoupfestival.ca/story.html.
