Hart’s 1988 song from Young Man Running has been re-recorded and completely re-imagined with Canadian DJ 1Love (a.k.a. Paul Todd). The former teen heartthrob now married with four children originally wrote “Truth Will Set You Free” after watching his gay friends struggling with their sexual identity and seeking acceptance. This updated dance version includes some new lines, including one about “Shepards star surviving,” a reference to 21-year-old Matthew Shepard who was tortured and murdered in 1998. — K.B.
